Plan Your Trip

How it Works

Here are some details to make the most of your railbiking experience:

Arrival and Check-In: We recommend arriving at the Station approximately 15-20 minutes before your scheduled departure time. Check in with our friendly Stationmaster to kick things off. Once you’re all set, take a moment to enjoy the surroundings. You can engage in a few lawn games, delve into the fascinating history of the Erie Coal Train, or simply relax until your guide crew is ready to welcome you aboard.

Briefing and Bike Setup: Before setting off, there will be a short briefing on how the railbikes work. Learn about the brakes, pedals, and other essentials. Our team will also ensure your bike is properly set up for your group, including adjusting seatbelts, stowing gear, and making seat adjustments.

Onboard and Rolling: Once everyone is onboard, your knowledgeable guide will get things rolling. Each railbike will be spaced out, allowing everyone ample room to savor the journey. Take your time, pedal at your own pace, and soak in the scenic beauty along the way.

Turnaround Point: When you reach the turnaround point, hop off your railbike and enjoy a well-deserved rest break. Our crew will expertly turn your bike around. Feel free to engage in some friendly competition with yard games, capture memorable photos, or unpack a snack and unwind.

Things to Bring: WINTER

Dress in layers for winter as this is an active adventure and you may be warm while pedaling and then cool/cold at the turn or before a ride. Coats are highly recommended but please be aware of our pedals for loose/baggy pants or blankets.

Colorado enjoys more than 300 sunny days each year but watch the weather forecast for temperature (hot or cold) and precipitation (rare). We recommend packing like you would for a park outing or a hike. Remember things like a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a water bottle. Feel free to bring along your favorite trail snacks or drinks. Each cart has backets or space for a small backpack or soft cooler. Our only exception is no alcohol.

Railbiking is a hands-free activity so cameras, selfie sticks, or a GoPro, are great ways to document your experience.

We watch the weather and will cancel your tour if hazardous weather like thunderstorms or high winds is likely. Passing showers or snow flurries won’t shut us down, pack accordingly.

Being Safe

Your safety is our top priority. That’s why we have some safety rules for everyone to follow.

Railbikes don’t go very fast, however we do require all riders to be properly buckled in. Before you load we will help you adjust your seat and make sure your seat belt is secure. You can only ride in a designated seat on the bikes.

Have fun on the rails and help others have fun. Please don’t tailgate or bump the bike in front of you. Stay on your bike until you reach the turnaround.

Each railbike is equipped with a safety flag. If you need immediate assistance during the ride, raise your flag and our crew member at the back of the group will be ready to assist.
